From the minutes of the East Greenwich Fire Company - March 24, 1903
The East Greenwich Fire Company was first formed on March 24, 1903 with 17 members from the community. The first piece of fire apparatus was a horse-drawn, two tank chemical wagon, which was purchased from the City of Baltimore. This was housed in the barn of Jos. V. Clark until the completion of the fire house in November 1909. The fire house was built at 5 West Cohawkin Road, where it still stands today.

According to records, during its early years, the fire company had to borrow horses from neighboring farmers to pull the fire engine to a fire. In 1921, the East Greenwich Fire Company purchased its first motorized fire engine, a 1921 Brockway with four chemical tanks. In 1923, the original horse-drawn fire engine was mounted on a Koehler Chassis and converted into a motorized engine. This truck was shared between the East Greenwich Fire Company and the Mickleton Fire Company for several years.
